Game animation
Basic game animation
Sure! First, you’ll learn the basics of game animation by starting with idle and posed character positions. In the Unreal game engine, you’ll animate characters to make them move and behave realistically within the game. You’ll encounter limitations like specific character rigs and low frame limits, but you’ll learn to work creatively within these constraints. Your first task involves understanding basic attack sequences. After seeing your animations in action, you’ll polish them to improve gameplay. This process involves refining movements and adding extra animations to make gameplay smoother. It’s all about making characters look and move as naturally as possible within the game world.
Intermediate animation
In this workshop, you’ll focus on improving communication and connection in animations, mastering timing and rhythm, and adding personality to characters. You’ll also learn how to embellish and polish animations, making them more dynamic, especially in combat and takedown actions. The workshop includes live talks, demos, reviews, and assignments that mimic a real game production pipeline. Instructors will teach techniques for game animation, covering timing, body mechanics, character posing, player reactions, and action responsiveness. You’ll also learn how to create interactive battles, cinematics, and integrate animations into popular game engines like Unity.
Your main task will be to animate character attack combos using weapons like hammers, swords, or blades. You’ll plan and set up your workspace in Unreal Engine 4, then animate the attacks and corresponding reactions. As you progress, you’ll refine the animation sequence, focusing on the flow and making adjustments for smooth gameplay. By the end, you’ll have a polished three-attack combo sequence ready for use in your game.
